Role of the Junior Land Surveyor:

In the capacity of a Junior Land Surveyor, you will be integral to land surveying efforts, supporting a variety of surveying projects and responsibilities. You will collaborate closely with experienced surveyors and professionals to gather, assess, and interpret spatial data that aids in construction, development, mapping, and land management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Surveys: Execute field surveys utilizing a range of instruments, including total stations, GPS devices, and digital levels.
  • Data Acquisition: Collect information regarding land boundaries, topography, and other geographical features for mapping and property evaluation.
  • Data Processing: Analyze and process survey data to produce precise maps, charts, and reports.
  • Drafting: Employ computer-aided design (CAD) software to generate accurate drawings and plans based on survey data.
  • Boundary Analysis: Assist in determining property boundaries and easements.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of survey activities, including field notes, photographs, and reports.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure survey operations adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Validate the accuracy and quality of survey work to minimize errors.
  • Equipment Care: Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments to guarantee precision and dependability.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to clarify project requirements and provide updates on survey status.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with senior surveyors, engineers, and other professionals to achieve project goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Land Surveyor registration certification is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in surveying and mapping is required.
  • 3+ years of project management experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in surveying tools and software, including total stations, GPS devices, and CAD applications.
  • Experience with 3D LiDAR Scanning (Static, Mobile, etc.) data registration and extraction.
  • UAV/UAS operation, data acquisition, and reduction experience is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in right-of-way mapping and parcel plat drafting.
  • Proficient in the use of total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors, as well as GPS reduction software.
  • Demonstrated AutoCAD skills are required; excellent skills are a plus.
  • Ability to interpret survey drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of monumentation, staking, and marking principles.
  • Hydrographic surveying experience is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of land surveying principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to precision and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and industry best practices.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Professional licensure or eligibility for licensure as a surveyor may be necessary in certain jurisdictions.
  • A valid driver's license is required for travel to project sites.
