The Speech Language Pathologist in an educational environment is tasked with conducting student assessments and delivering as well as documenting therapeutic services in alignment with the individualized care plan established for each student and the directives from the physician.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates students' communication abilities (e.g., articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language) to identify communication impairments, ascertain program eligibility, and formulate treatment recommendations.
  • Engages with various stakeholders to share information, address concerns, and provide services while adhering to established protocols.
  • Facilitates meetings and processes for qualifying students (e.g., assessments, IEPs, parent discussions, pre-referral evaluations) to present assessment findings, create treatment strategies, and offer training to parents, students, and staff.
  • Designs treatment plans, interventions, and educational resources aimed at reducing the negative effects of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Instructs eligible students on the use of suitable communication technologies (e.g., hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices).
  • Maintains comprehensive records (e.g., progress reports, activity logs, billing details, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening outcomes).
  • Participates in professional gatherings, workshops, and seminars (e.g., training sessions, IEP meetings, team discussions).
  • Provides speech and language therapy to students to mitigate the adverse effects of speech and language disorders on academic achievement.
  • Seeks relevant in-service training and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned or necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Licensure in the relevant state is mandatory.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) is preferred and may be required by state or contract.
  • Adheres to all pertinent professional standards of practice.
  • Completes Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Maintains current CPR certification if necessary.
  • Submits TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required.
  • Possesses a current Health certificate as per contract or state regulations.
  • Meets all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successfully completes new hire training relevant to the job site.
  • Understands patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Exhibits strong communication skills to effectively exchange information with relevant individuals (including supervisors, colleagues, clients); proficiency in English is essential.
  • Demonstrates computer proficiency.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Technology will be provided by Amergis.
