Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing quality services to students with special needs, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Collaborate with parents, department team members, and other professionals to create and implement IEPs that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Provide Instruction and Support: Design and deliver instruction that parallels the general education curriculum, providing individual and small group support to students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Communicate with Parents and Colleagues: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to ensure seamless collaboration and support for students.
  • Monitor Student Progress: Regularly monitor student progress, participate in review and revision of IEPs, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentor and Support Teaching Assistants: Provide guidance and support to teaching assistants who work with students with disabilities.
  • Assess Student Skills and Needs: Assess students' skills and educational needs, tracking their performance and progress.
  • Collaborate with General Education Staff: Serve as a coordinator of IEP implementation with general education staff, ensuring a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, valid state teaching certificate, and minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment.
  • Specialized Training and Endorsements: State Teacher Certification, Type: Standard Elementary Teaching, Standard Secondary Teaching, and Standard Special Teaching preferred. Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
  • Professional Standards and Compliance: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice, participate in Amergis' Competency program, and meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively elicit and provide information to and from appropriate individuals.
  • Computer Proficiency: Proficient in computer skills and able to maintain accurate records.
