Retirement Services Supervisor

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of retirement and financial services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the business functions and employees of the Member Service Center.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retirement and financial services, with a proven track record of success in a supervisory or lead role. You will be responsible for ensuring that all member phone calls, online communication, and personal visitors are handled in accordance with Minnesota Statutes 353 and 356.
You will also be responsible for providing expert counseling to members or benefit recipients on benefits, federal and state tax issues, and financial planning relating to PERA. Additionally, you will assist the Member Service Center Retirement Services Director with overall department needs and serve as a backup in the event of absence.
This role requires strong human relations skills, diplomacy, and the ability to work effectively with employees, managers, and external stakeholders. You will also need to have a strong understanding of retirement laws and regulations, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and Word.

Key Responsibilities- Plan, direct, and supervise the business functions and employees of the Member Service Center
- Ensure that all member phone calls, online communication, and personal visitors are handled in accordance with Minnesota Statutes 353 and 356
- Provide expert counseling to members or benefit recipients on benefits, federal and state tax issues, and financial planning relating to PERA
- Assist the Member Service Center Retirement Services Director with overall department needs and serve as a backup in the event of absence
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with retirement laws and regulations
- Collaborate with division supervisors and managers to ensure adequate resources are available to best accommodate member service needs
- Four (4) years of professional level experience in retirement or financial services, including demonstrated ability to apply complex calculations, benefit interpretation, and counseling
- At least two (2) years of supervisory or lead work experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or Finance may substitute for one (1) year of required professional level experience
- Strong human relations skills, diplomacy, and ability to work effectively with employees, managers, and external stakeholders
- Strong understanding of retirement laws and regulations, including Minnesota Statutes 353 and 356
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and Word
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Math, or Public Administration
- Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and provisions of the Minnesota merit system and current labor-management contracts
- Knowledge and experience working with Federal and State programs, and applying State and Federal Laws and Regulations
This role requires occasional lifting and/or carrying of file folders, ledgers, and small tools. A sedentary job is defined as one that involves sitting, but a certain amount of movement is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
