**Position Overview**

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the assignment, supervision, and evaluation of personnel involved in the operation of refuse collection vehicles and various municipal solid waste activities. The ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge of landfill operations, equipment upkeep, and solid waste collection programs across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
  • Coordinate and supervise diverse refuse collection operations, ensuring adherence to safety standards and operational protocols.
  • Manage the functionality of material and equipment storage facilities, including dispatching and vehicle maintenance operations.
  • Conduct inspections of collection tasks to ensure compliance with established safety practices and operational standards.
  • Engage with the public to address and resolve complaints, demonstrating tact and professionalism.
  • Monitor equipment conditions, assist in identifying vehicle misuse, and oversee maintenance and repair activities.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of operational activities to support effective planning and management.
  • Address and log complaints related to assigned areas, ensuring appropriate follow-up actions are taken.
  • Evaluate and recommend personnel actions, including promotions and disciplinary measures, while addressing employee grievances.
  • Assist in the strategic assignment of collection vehicles based on operational priorities and equipment availability.
  • Supervise subordinate staff engaged in various operational tasks, establishing procedures and maintaining inventory control records.
  • Provide training and support in equipment operation as needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Essential Qualifications
    • A minimum of five years of documented experience in managing solid waste landfill or processing facilities, with at least four years in a State/EPA permitted Subtitle-D solid waste facility.
    • Proficient in landfill operations, equipment maintenance, and solid waste collection programs.
    • Prior supervisory experience is required.
    • Must hold OEM certification for operating and maintaining specialized waste processing equipment.
    • Ability to obtain necessary certifications within six months of employment.
  • Skills and Competencies
    • In-depth knowledge of refuse removal methods, materials, and equipment.
    • Familiarity with effective supervisory techniques and safety precautions in waste management.
    • Ability to effectively plan, assign, and review the work of subordinate employees while fostering positive working relationships.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare concise reports.
