Summary Description

The IT Systems Operations Specialist is responsible for delivering outstanding support to staff while ensuring the efficient operation of our IT systems. This role involves assisting employees with inquiries and issues related to computer systems, hardware, and software. The Specialist will manage help desk inquiries, oversee computer deployments, applications, servers, smartphones, and network systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties represent typical responsibilities for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all listed duties and may be required to undertake additional or different tasks as business needs evolve.

  • Maintain, configure, and ensure the reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization technologies.
  • Install and upgrade hardware and software components, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes.
  • Conduct server administration tasks (e.g., user/group management, security permissions, group policies, print services); investigate event-log warnings and errors; monitor resources to ensure seamless integration of systems architecture components.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues by performing diagnostics, documenting problems and solutions, prioritizing issues, and evaluating their impact.
  • Execute regular backup operations and implement robust processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover strategies.
  • Lead desktop and helpdesk support initiatives, ensuring timely resolution of all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment issues.
  • Oversee new user setups and computer rollouts.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all hardware and software deployed across the organization.
  • Be available on-call to promptly address errors or network failures.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to research and resolve technical problems.
  • Stay informed about current technologies related to software and hardware.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proficient knowledge of virtualization technologies, such as VMWare or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of systems and networking software, hardware, and protocols.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
  • Solid working knowledge of Office 365, Windows desktop environments, and mobile operating systems (Android and iOS).
  • Familiarity with Cisco Duo Multifactor Authentication is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Munis and Full Circle is advantageous.
  • A proven history of developing and executing IT strategies and plans.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical pathway to acquire the necessary knowledge and abilities includes:

  • 3-5 years of experience in server and network support.
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications in system administration and IT related to Linux, Microsoft, or other networking fields are a plus.
