The Town of Leland is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing laws, maintaining public safety, and providing exceptional service to our community.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol and Enforcement: Operate a patrol vehicle or walk on an assigned shift to observe for violations of traffic laws, suspicious activities, and disturbances of law and order.
- Investigation and Evidence Collection: Interview victims and witnesses, investigate crimes, collect evidence, and conduct searches.
- Community Engagement: Assist the public with services, including education on crime prevention, provision of general information, and assistance with auto or home lockouts.
- Arrest and Court Testimony: Make arrests, complete arrest records, and testify in court.
- Traffic Management: Direct traffic, perform residential and commercial checks, and assist other law enforcement agencies when requested.
- Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and up to three years of experience in law enforcement. Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Certifications and Licenses: Possession of Basic Law Enforcement Training certification and a valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to deescalate situations, use critical thinking and problem-solving skills, communicate effectively, and work in a team environment.
This work requires regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, and repetitive motions.
Work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision, and peripheral vision. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
