Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Lead Custodian to join our team at Brunswick High School. The successful candidate will assist the Lead Custodian in directing building custodians in maintaining facilities in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety to maximize and optimize facility use by students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Lead Custodian in ensuring efficient custodial scheduling to support building operations, cleaning, grounds maintenance, extracurricular activities, outside user group activities, and emergency response, while minimizing overtime costs.
  • Assist the Lead Custodian in ensuring that individual custodians are properly cleaning and maintaining their assigned areas.
  • Assist the Lead Custodian in maintaining appropriate levels of custodial supplies to ensure efficient operations and avoid spoilage.
  • Perform daily custodial tasks in assigned area including: empty trash/recycle containers, remove 100% of visible dirt/debris from floors, wet mop all hard surface floors, rearrange furniture as necessary, clean and sanitize all restrooms/locker rooms/drinking fountains.
  • Perform periodic custodial tasks in assigned area including: low and high dusting, cleaning windows, wiping down furniture and work surfaces, burnishing tile floors, and washing walls.
  • Perform seasonal tasks including: snow and ice removal, salt spreading, grass mowing, line trimming, mulching, raking, policing grounds for trash, and weeding.
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks including: refinishing tile floors, refinishing wood floors, high cleaning from a ladder or man lift, washing furniture, and cleaning of carpeting.
  • Perform as needed custodial tasks including: graffiti removal, replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, unclogging plumbing fixtures, painting, and minor repairs and maintenance on custodial equipment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of paid, professional experience in the custodial field, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to use a computer and properly use/maintain an FCPS e-mail account.
  • Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Some skill in the use of small equipment used in routine cleaning.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules; day, evening, and nightshifts.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Working Conditions:

  • Able to walk, sit, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, reach above shoulders, crouch, or crawl for varying periods of time.
  • Able to access elevated workspaces via ladders and man lifts.
  • Able to work in environments subject to hot and cold temperatures along with potential hazards such as: airborne particulates, plant pollens, chemical exposure, bloodborne pathogens, and heights.
  • Must be able to employ the personal protective equipment necessary to protect against these situations.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Paid, professional custodial experience related to a public entity preferably an agency related to public education.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
