Job Title: Bus Assistant

Job Summary:

The Bus Assistant position is a vital role within our organization, responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children on and off the school bus. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely assist children on and off the school bus, ensuring they are properly secured in safety restraints prior to departure.
  • Maintain a pleasant and safe environment for children while on the bus, engaging them in developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Assist in coordinating and conducting Emergency Bus Evacuation Drills and Transportation and Pedestrian Safety workshops with the PFCE Supervisor and Bus Driver.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and program rules of conduct, supporting the Bus Driver in enforcing bus rules.
  • Complete daily attendance records on children riding the bus and submit them on a weekly basis to the PFCE Supervisor.
  • Participate in special community events and agency-wide initiatives, including development events and activities.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least 1 year of experience assisting in the operation of a school bus.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, comprehend, process, interpret, and follow instructions in the English language.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
  • Basic computer skills to access HOPES CAP, Inc. email and Employee Self Service for communication within the agency.
