Position Overview

The Merchandise Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring operational excellence within the Pet Care Center, aligned with Petco's vision of fostering healthier pets, happier people, and a better world. This position is responsible for overseeing effective merchandising and inventory management practices. The supervisor guarantees that all products are received, priced, and stocked accurately while maintaining the backroom according to Petco's operational standards. They will drive the store to meet established goals and metrics, focusing on training, developing, and supporting a high-performing team that contributes to sales growth and effective management of the Pet Care Center's operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage business insights to analyze trends and implement improvement strategies.
  • Support the execution of Inventory Management through training and coaching on shrink, cycle counts, receiving, and returns.
  • Facilitate the implementation of Merchandising Management, ensuring adherence to brand standards and pricing accuracy.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by processing transactions efficiently.
  • Guide team members in guest interactions and support the selling model.
  • Implement Omni Channel strategies through training on various service options to enhance guest experience.
  • Ensure the health and welfare of all animals, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe and clean environment for partners, guests, and animals, following safety protocols.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness in the backroom and throughout the store.
  • Train and develop team members on receiving, processing, and stocking procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies to minimize shrinkage.
  • Manage returns and hazardous waste in accordance with company policy.
  • Oversee store opening and closing procedures as per established guidelines.
  • Act as Leader on Duty, ensuring guest satisfaction and operational execution.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration among team members.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college coursework in business or management is preferred.
  • Management experience of at least one year is required; two years is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability in business practices, financial acumen, and problem-solving, with a focus on guest service.
  • Aptitude for delivering exceptional guest service and training others is necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise Operations Specialists and Generalists.
  • Ensure high standards of service and merchandising are upheld.
  • Oversee attendance processes in collaboration with Pet Care Center leadership.
  • Promote safety protocols for partners, guests, and pets.

Work Environment

This role requires support during key operational hours, including weekends. Most duties are performed indoors, with occasional tasks requiring movement of merchandise and customer interactions. Due to the physical nature of the role, adherence to safety procedures is crucial.
