Job Description

Emergency Physicians Professional Association (EPPA) is a physician-owned and operated company with a Medical Scribe Program that includes 18 locations throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul Greater Area and St. Cloud, MN. Our specialties include emergency medicine, primary care, oncology, dermatology, orthopedics, and more.

A Medical Scribe works one-on-one with a physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner, accompanying them into each patient encounter. Scribes complete the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in real-time, enabling providers to focus on patient care and increasing the department's workflow. Scribes type everything that occurs during the patient visit, including medical history, physical exams, patient outcomes, labs, imaging, and dictations directly into the EHR.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurate and timely charting of patient encounters, including patient history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, lab and test results, consultations, treatment course, diagnoses, and discharge instructions.
  • Professional interaction with patients, providers, hospital staff, and other coworkers.
  • Compliance with hospital, HIPAA, and EPPA policies, including confidentiality of patient information.
  • Excellent job attendance, with scribes held to the same attendance standards as providers.
  • All other duties, responsibilities, and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate program with pre-medical/science coursework and labs, or completed an undergraduate degree with professional school science pre-requisites and labs.
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Prior healthcare-related work, direct patient care, volunteering, shadowing, and/or undergraduate research is strongly preferred.
  • Computer competence with the ability to type at 60 wpm or higher.
  • Excellent communication skills in grammatically correct written and verbal English language.
  • Ability to spell, proofread, and edit written English text.
  • Ability to problem-solve in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum one year of full-time undergraduate studies completed is required.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Working Conditions:

Scribes work in fast-paced emergency departments, hospitals, and clinics. Physical requirements include continuous standing during shifts, repeated sitting, listening, fluorescent lighting, repetitive typing and key entry work, computer work, and other normal hospital conditions. Ability to push and maneuver a portable computer on wheels. The position may require some lifting up to 20 pounds.
