McLean Hospital is a comprehensive psychiatric hospital dedicated to providing easy access to superior quality, cost-effective mental health services in the Boston area, Massachusetts, and beyond. Since 1811, McLean Hospital has been a world leader in the treatment of mental illness and chemical dependency, research into the causes of mental illness, and the training of generations of mental health care providers. McLean's multidisciplinary programs treat a broad range of psychiatric illnesses across the full continuum of care.

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Behavioral Health Technician provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu. Key responsibilities include:

  • Accurate and timely documentation of AFS, progress notes, and observation sheets
  • Establishing therapeutic relationships with patients, maintaining professional boundaries
  • Participating in patient rounds or teams
  • Completing patient care assignments
  • Identifying patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis; utilizing non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis situations
  • Intervening in managing complex patient situations and patient schedules, utilizing department policies and procedures, always promoting the least restrictive alternatives
  • Communicating changes in patient status to RN
  • Following Standards of Care and protocols for assigned patients
  • Remaining awake and alert at all times while on the job
  • Performing Point of Care testing (POC)
  • Completing electronic medical records training and demonstrating 80% accuracy on competency test within 30 days of hire

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Prefer two years of college plus one year of clinical experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting
  • Licensure: N/A
