Laboratory Phlebotomy Specialist

The Laboratory Phlebotomy Specialist is responsible for collecting patient specimens from outside or within the hospital in accordance with established procedures. This role involves distributing specimens to appropriate areas within the laboratory and performing general clerical duties. The ideal candidate will have the ability to learn and perform the duties of the Phlebotomist II position.
Minimum Qualifications- Education: High school graduate or equivalent

- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Not applicable
- Education: Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy program
- Experience: Six months of phlebotomy experience
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Phlebotomy certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology or equivalent agency, and a valid driver's license
- Ability to accurately maintain sample and report identity using patient name and identification number through sample receipt, processing, and reporting
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to patient information
- Ability to effectively greet the public, work well with patients and hospital employees, and communicate effectively with all kinds of people
- Ability to follow directions and perform tasks outlined in procedure
- Ability to exercise judgment and take responsibility to maintain patient health and safety during specimen collection
- Ability to organize work and meet deadlines
- Reading - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Writing - Basic: Ability to write simple correspondence
- Speaking - Basic: Ability to speak simple sentences
- Mathematical Skills - Basic Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
- Reasoning Ability - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Age Specific Competencies - Skilled at assessment and knowledgeable of growth and development

- Regularly exposed to risk of blood-borne diseases. Exposed to reagents used in laboratory testing; may be exposed to/occasionally exposed to unpleasant patient elements. Exposed to hazards from electrical and mechanical equipment
