About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician II to join our team at Dignity Health – Northridge Hospital Medical Center. As a key member of our Central Sterilization department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Clean and decontaminate surgical instruments and medical equipment, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize medical devices, following manufacturer recommendations and established protocols.
  • Operate cleaning and sterilization equipment, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Perform biological tests and maintain recording devices on autoclaves, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Inspect instruments to ensure good working condition, sending them for repair or sharpening as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to sterile field protocols in operating rooms.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of sterilization, asepsis, infection control, and universal safety precautions.
  • Prepare for potential emergencies, such as fires and earthquakes, ensuring a safe and secure environment.
  • Exhibit organizational skills, cost-consciousness, and quality assurance procedures in job tasks.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues and supervisors, ensuring seamless operating room activities.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, filling surgical case cart requisitions using the hospital computer system.
  • Comply with established hospital and departmental policies, protocols, and objectives.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with staff, physicians, patients, and the public, ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
  • Assemble, inspect, wrap, and label O.R. sets, adhering to departmental protocols and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Assist in maintaining supply levels of departmental stock, communicating with ordering personnel.
  • Articulate knowledge of soaps, detergents, packaging methods, sterilization methods, infection control practices, high-level disinfection practices, and safe practices in Sterile Processing.
  • Report broken instrumentation and equipment, ensuring prompt repair or replacement.
  • Independently operate all SPD equipment, ensuring efficient and safe operation.
  • Handle flexible scopes after manual cleaning, adhering to established protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, ensuring seamless operating room activities.
  • Act as a preceptor, mentor, and role model for staff members, assisting with departmental orientation as needed.
Requirements
  • Minimum of two years experience with surgical instrumentation required.
  • Minimum two years prior sterile processing or surgical tech experience required.
  • Completion of a Sterile Processing Program or surgical tech program required.
  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • CRCST (HPSA) required within 6-months of hire/transfer for Certified Surgical Technologist.
  • Current AHA BLS card required.
  • Fire Card (within 90 days of hire) required.
