The Early Childhood Enrichment Center (ECEC) has proudly served the community for over 50 years, achieving a prestigious 5 Star (GOLD) rating through the Ohio Step Up to Quality tiered rating system and securing vital funding through the Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program grant.

Our mission is to establish a strong foundation for young children, empowering them to become active members of the community by enhancing their lives and supporting families through inclusive and diverse educational experiences.


Currently, we are serving 200 children aged 18 months to kindergarten-ready, and we take great pride in our leadership role in early childhood education, fostering creativity, self-sufficiency, integrity, and respect through collaborative partnerships among children, parents, and educators.

Our center is dedicated to promoting a passion for learning, setting developmentally appropriate expectations, and cultivating a robust sense of community for children, staff, and families.


We uphold values of respect, integrity, accountability, dependability, supportiveness, and positivity in all our interactions and initiatives. Our staff enjoys a remarkable average tenure of five years, with many serving for 10, 15, or even 20 years.

ECEC holds a unique and cherished position within the Shaker Heights community.

Located in a lush neighborhood within a century-old repurposed K-12 school building, the ECEC experience is unparalleled in Northeast Ohio.

Both current and former ECEC families have a deep affection for our center and remain committed to its ongoing success.


As our long-serving Executive Director prepares for retirement after 12 years of dedicated service, we are seeking a dynamic and passionate leader to take the helm.

The Executive Director will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Early Childhood Enrichment Center. This pivotal role encompasses the management of overall operations, including staff oversight, financial stewardship, program development, and community outreach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Management


Offer guidance and direction to all ECEC personnel to ensure program excellence, aligned with Ohio Early Learning and Development standards, covering financial management, administration, fundraising, communications, and operational oversight.

Collaborate with and report to the Board of Directors.

Directly supervise and assess the curriculum specialist, compliance specialist, enrollment specialist, and bookkeeper.


Attend Board meetings, provide regular updates on center operations, and engage in special Board and committee meetings as an ex-officio member.


In collaboration with key staff, manage daily staffing levels, supervise and evaluate educators, conduct staff meetings, and identify in-service training needs.

Develop an annual strategic plan in partnership with the Board.

Procure and allocate resources in alignment with strategic objectives.

Oversee county and state grant initiatives.

Financial Oversight

Manage all fiscal operations, including the center's budget, tuition, and grants.


Secure both public and private funding to support school operations and the upkeep of the ECEC facility, which is leased from the City of Shaker Heights.

Oversee building vendors and suppliers.

Innovation and Professional Development

Collaborate with key staff to identify and address training needs based on teacher evaluations, professional development plans, and observations.

Drive innovation in practice, partnerships, and employee engagement as essential components of operational efficiency.

Consistently promote and manage the integration of technology at all staff levels.


Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to maintain the center's leadership in the early care and education sector.

Community Engagement


Foster and sustain relationships with all stakeholders, including nearby early care and education providers, local schools, elected officials, funders, community organizations, and families.

Act as ECEC's spokesperson to partners and the media.


Facilitate trusting relationships with parents and staff through exceptional communication and follow-through, and active participation in the Parents as Partners Committee.


Collaborate with local school districts on appropriate service placements for children with developmental challenges and special needs.


REQUIRED SKILLS
Extensive knowledge of child development principles, best practices in early childhood education, and current parenting trends.


Proven success in securing private and public funding through grant writing and donor engagement, including grant writing, fundraising, government contract reporting, and compliance.

Demonstrated experience managing government grants and contracts.

Accountability to a Board of Directors (or similar governance board).

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Strong proficiency in developing and managing non-profit budgets.

Technological proficiency, ideally with common early care and education applications and software.

Highly skilled in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, etc.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Master's Degree in early childhood education or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience and education.

State Career Pathway Level 5.


A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing an early care and education facility at the Executive, Director, Assistant Director, or Administrative level.

Experience with tiered quality rating systems.
