Position Overview

The role of the Veterinary Animal Care Specialist involves providing essential care for larger preclinical animals within a research environment.

Key Working Hours:

Work schedule is from Saturday to Wednesday, 7 AM to 4 PM, with Thursdays and Fridays designated as off days.

Compensation:

Hourly rate is set at $21 on a W2 basis.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure daily upkeep of animal health and welfare.
  2. Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain safety protocols.
  3. Conduct daily cleaning of all animal housing facilities.
  4. Provide daily enrichment activities for animals, including exercise, toys, and social interaction.
  5. Perform weekly disinfection of housing areas, including walls, floors, and feeding bins.
  6. Administer feed to all animals in accordance with departmental SOPs.
  7. Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout all laboratory areas.
  8. Manage the receipt of departmental deliveries.
  9. Report any health concerns to Veterinary Staff promptly.
  10. Document all activities in animal records and forms daily, following Good Documentation Practices.
  11. Assist Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians as directed by the Manager.
  12. Communicate any required facility maintenance to the Manager.

Additional Information:

Animal care responsibilities may include weekend work. Candidates must be capable of lifting up to 30 pounds.

Quality Assurance Responsibilities:

Integrate quality into all aspects of work by ensuring compliance with all quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician is not mandatory, but relevant industry experience is advantageous.
  • All candidates must complete the attached medical screening background requirements prior to the start date.

Work Attire:

Lab attire, including scrubs and shoes, will be provided. Closed-toe footwear is mandatory.
