WHAT WILL I DO AS A SENIOR ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST?
Conducts comprehensive reviews and executes a variety of financial assignments throughout the annual accounting cycle, including the establishment and upkeep of financial records, categorization of revenue and expenditure transactions, journalizing financial activities, compiling trial balances, and preparing adjustments for closing periods.
Interprets financial and accounting provisions of various laws, regulations, and standards, and suggests steps for their implementation.
Performs cost surveys, revenue analyses, and studies of accounting systems and procedures, and generates reports of findings.Compiles, assesses, and reconciles intricate operating statements, final accounting for projects, and reimbursement claims from governmental agencies or private contractors.
Evaluates and reconciles complex operating systems for cost reporting and claims processing reimbursements from other government entities.Prepares balance sheets, revenue statements, fund balance reports, cost accounting documents, revenue and expenditure forecasts, and other specialized financial reports.
Compiles expenditure and revenue reports and prepares periodic financial statements of federal and state grants for review.Conducts routine audits of financial records for grant-operated agencies, businesses, charitable organizations, other governmental entities, or private contractors; drafts audit reports and offers recommendations.
Coordinates audits with internal and external auditors, prepares supporting documentation, and provides additional assistance.Analyzes established cost accounting systems to determine if the bases and techniques yield realistic estimates of actual costs. Recommends modifications to enhance the reliability of cost bases and procedures.
Acts as a liaison with other departments or governmental agencies regarding accounting matters.
Participates in the implementation of systems and procedures.
Supervises a small team of accounting technical and clerical staff as needed.
Serves as the department Internal Control Certification Program (ICCP) coordinator as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
We are looking for dedicated individuals who possess: 21 semester or 32 quarter units of accounting in an accredited college or university, including at least two courses in advanced accounting subjects.
AND EITHER OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS
OPTION I :
One year of entry-level accounting or auditing experience at the level of a junior accountant.
OPTION II :
Two years of technical accounting experience at the level of an accounting technician.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Drivers License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:
Physical Class II – Light:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
