Job Opportunity

BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc. is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist to support our growing workload of water resource and ecological restoration projects. The successful candidate will work directly with project teams and must be an organized and motivated individual with strong technical writing capabilities and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members.

The ideal candidate will have experience in wetland delineation, forest stand delineation, and plant identification in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as a strong understanding of soils and soil processes. Experience with wetland permitting for stream and ecological restoration, coastal restoration, and stormwater management projects is also desirable.

Responsibilities will include conducting natural resource inventories/forest stand delineations, preparing and obtaining environmental permits, and preparing a diverse range of deliverables using ArcGIS and AutoCAD. The successful candidate will also be responsible for coordinating with resource protection agencies, including the Maryland Department of the Environment, Critical Area Commission, Maryland Historical Trust, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Natural Resource Sciences
  • 5-8 years of relevant working experience
  • Experience and ability to execute plant community surveys, wetland and forest stand delineations, and related reports independently
  • Permitting experience on stream and ecological restoration, living shoreline, and/or stormwater management projects
  • Ability to service multiple projects and multiple in-house technical personnel
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, regulators, public officials, and other team members
  • Experience in delivering high-quality professional deliverables and exhibits
  • ArcMap/ArcGIS/ArcPro experience
  • AutoCAD experience, including Civil3D

Desired Skills:

  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification or ability to gain certification
  • Experience and/or ability to prepare planting plans for stream restoration and stormwater management projects
  • Ability to prepare Critical Area Buffer Management Plans and 10% Rule Calculations
  • Certification as a Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional or ability to gain certification
  • Experience with GPS operations, mapping, and data management
  • Familiarity with restoration monitoring procedures to assess functional uplift
