Job Overview

A Carpenter is responsible for the construction, assembly, installation, and repair of various structures and fixtures made from wood, metal, wallboard, and other materials. Utilizing both hand tools and power tools, the Carpenter ensures compliance with local building regulations while striving to meet production and quality standards that exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans to determine material requirements and dimensions for fabrication.
  • Select appropriate materials and prepare layouts using tools such as tape measures and framing squares.
  • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials accurately.
  • Shape materials to specified measurements using both power and hand tools.
  • Assemble and fasten materials together using suitable fasteners.
  • Verify the accuracy and integrity of constructed structures before finalization.
  • Install prefabricated components including window frames, doors, and interior/exterior trim.
Qualifications

Carpenters are expected to maintain high standards of production and quality in their work. They typically report to a foreman or lead carpenter and are assigned various tasks to complete. Safety and a well-maintained work environment are paramount.

Physical Requirements

Carpenters must possess the ability to:

  • Climb and maintain balance on scaffolding and ladders.
  • Handle and manipulate materials effectively.
  • Lift and carry heavy objects, potentially weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, and crawling.
  • Have good vision, either naturally or with correction.
Compensation

Compensation for carpenters varies based on experience and skill level, with wages determined by union agreements.
