Position Title: Phlebotomist

Hourly Wage: $20.02

Role Summary:

This part-time Phlebotomist role is available at our Aberdeen Medical Clinic. The successful candidate will be tasked with performing blood draws, conducting waived tests, Automated CBCs, EKGs, and Spirometry, while also assisting in the diagnostic and treatment processes for patients. Responsibilities include maintaining laboratory records, processing specimens for external referrals, and supporting the Medical Lab Technician or Medical Technologist as needed. The work schedule will consist of every Friday and additional days as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Universal Precautions to prevent biohazard contamination during blood collection and handling.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide a welcoming environment for patients, ensuring their comfort and calmness during procedures.
  • Accurately identify patients using their name and date of birth, label collection tubes, and maintain meticulous attention to detail.
  • Perform blood draws and collect specimens using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Verify test orders in Electronic Health Records (EHR) to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation related to quality assurance and control procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and nursing staff regarding patient care.
  • Manage inventory of reagents and supplies, ensuring proper storage and expiration checks.
  • Assist other departments as needed and be available for overtime hours when required.

Additional Duties:

EKG Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the examination room and the patient for EKG procedures.
  • Apply electrodes and operate the EKG machine to obtain accurate readings.
  • Document patient information and label tracings as necessary.
Spirometry Responsibilities:
  • Calibrate spirometry equipment daily or prior to use.
  • Conduct spirometry tests following established protocols and report results to licensed providers.
Specimen Processing:
  • Ensure proper processing of specimens according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Track and review test results daily in EHR.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in a clinical or hospital setting is preferred.
  • CPR/BLS certification is necessary.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is advantageous but not required.
