Accelerated Training Program for Heavy Equipment Technicians

We are seeking experienced mechanical technicians to join our accelerated training program for heavy equipment technicians. This comprehensive program is designed to fast-track individuals with previous mechanical experience into becoming Altorfer technicians.



Program Overview

The program consists of 10 hands-on training classes, held at our state-of-the-art training facility in East Peoria, IL. Participants will attend training one week per month for 10 months, learning from experienced instructors and gaining hands-on experience with heavy equipment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Complete web-based training prerequisites prior to attending instructor-led training
  • Participate in hands-on training sessions, learning from experienced instructors and gaining practical experience with heavy equipment
  • Perform service and repairs on Caterpillar and other types of heavy equipment when not attending training
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner to diagnose and repair technical problems
  • Establish and maintain a service-oriented relationship with customers and supervisors
  • Complete service reports in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • A minimum of two years' of previous mechanical experience required
  • Basic knowledge in engine, electrical, and hydraulic diagnostic, trouble shooting, and repair skills
  • Military and veterans encouraged to apply
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to follow all safety rules and wear proper safety equipment in the shop
  • Must be a self-starter with good time management skills
  • Willing and able to travel to East Peoria, IL one week per month for 10 months to attend training sessions
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills required
  • Ability to work overtime and some weekends when needed
  • Excellent communication skills (written, email, and verbal) necessary
  • Must be able to lift up to 75-100lbs and provide own tools
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record


Working Conditions

While attending the training program, participants will learn in a classroom and shop environment. When not attending the training program, individuals will work in a shop/warehouse environment. May be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (e.g. safety glasses or side shields) when needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. May intermittently sit at a desk for a period of time to answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through email.
