Key Responsibilities:

20% Directs and organizes the preparation of meals for immediate service and ensures the preservation of food for future use.

20% Assesses food requirements and manages the requisition, receipt, and distribution of food supplies to subordinate staff.

15% Supervises team members in the mixing, kneading, and baking of bread, rolls, pastries, and desserts.

15% Engages in cooking tasks that involve high temperatures, open flames, and steam, while adhering to safety protocols regarding hazardous materials.

15% Functions as a baker within the food service environment.

10% Executes a comprehensive range of culinary duties within the food service framework.

5% Reports any unsafe working conditions and malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor.



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


One year of experience in food service within a commercial, industrial, military, or institutional setting that involved actual food preparation.

SUBSTITUTIONS:


Training in culinary arts, food service management, or a related field from a trade school or technical institute may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis.


College credits in nutrition, dietetics, culinary preparation, home economics, or hospitality management may also substitute for the required experience on a basis of one semester hour for one month of experience.

NOTE:


Food preparation tasks include cooking, baking, chopping, meat cutting, salad and sandwich preparation, and short-order cooking.

Classified employees are not required to provide an official job description or percentages of time spent on food preparation.

Experience limited to serving, tray preparation, cleaning, or dishwashing does not qualify.

NOTE:

Any college credits or degrees must be from an accredited institution.

Additional Information:


Positions may be safety-sensitive, where substance abuse could impact job performance or safety.

This role may involve direct interaction with minors, requiring background checks.

Physical demands include the ability to lift 50 pounds and may require a pre-employment physical examination.

Culinary Services Specialist 3

The cafeteria serves a large student population daily.

The primary function of this role is to perform advanced culinary tasks within the food service operation.

A permanent or probationary internal employee who is appointed to another position following certification from an open competitive eligible list is considered a new employee in the new position and shall serve a probationary period of six months.
