Role Overview: The Lead Early Childhood Educator collaborates closely with classroom educators to provide attentive and responsive care to each child, addressing their emotional, social, physical, and educational needs. Our early learning programs are designed to create a nurturing environment that encourages learning, character development, healthy living, and positive relationships. With a strong commitment to meeting accreditation standards and providing extensive training in evidence-based practices, you will have opportunities for personal growth while making a positive impact on children, families, and communities. The Lead Early Childhood Educator, in partnership with the Head Start Teacher, supports effective instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment, and research for children aged 3-5 years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, parents, colleagues, and the community.
  • Facilitate high-quality teaching and learning experiences that foster academic readiness.
  • Maintain vigilance and supervision of all children's needs, ensuring their health and safety at all times.
  • Provide guidance and support to all children, including dual language learners and those with special needs.
  • Assist Teachers in implementing English Language Learner programs to promote linguistically and culturally responsive practices.
  • Utilize available resources to adapt and apply diverse instructional methods to cater to children's varying needs.
  • Lead selected activities throughout the day.
  • Model and encourage appropriate language, positive interactions, and discipline for children and parents.
  • Collaborate with classroom team members to develop lesson plans with clear goals, objectives, activities, and outcomes.
  • Ensure the classroom environment is attractive, clean, safe, and engaging, promoting children's independence and self-selection of activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, completing at least thirty clock hours annually.
  • Support agency efforts toward recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and retention of eligible families.
  • Adhere to Head Start Performance Standards and Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
Child Safety Commitment: Uphold the YMCA's dedication to child safety by:
  • Reporting any potential health or safety hazards to your supervisor.
  • Following all policies related to child supervision and safety.
  • Completing all required child safety training.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or an AA Degree with relevant credentials.
  • Must pass background checks and maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • Demonstrated passion for the YMCA's mission and commitment to serving children and families.
  • Knowledge and ability to assist in implementing developmentally appropriate practices for early learning and social-emotional development.
