Cybersecurity Specialists are responsible for the development, design, implementation, and integration of security systems that protect enterprise assets from cyber threats. They foster innovation, influence project delivery, and enhance performance. Their role includes producing high-quality outputs, conducting security assessments, and continuously optimizing security tools. Cybersecurity Specialists identify vulnerabilities and inefficiencies, collaborating with the business to implement tailored solutions.
Every member of the Cybersecurity Engineering team plays a crucial role in supporting Costco Wholesale's core values and business objectives, particularly in relation to legal, ethical, and regulatory compliance; safeguarding the privacy of members and employees; and maintaining a secure technological environment for our operations.
This position will be a vital contributor to the Cybersecurity Engineering - Data Security team, responsible for designing, developing, and deploying tools, services, programs, and projects focused on Data Loss Prevention (DLP) technologies.
Moreover, the specialist will collaborate with management and vendors for product evaluations; conduct audits of information system activities; act as a Subject Matter Expert, providing consultative services; drive technological innovation, process improvements, and maintain operational excellence for their tools, services, and programs; create and uphold documentation related to policies, standards, and procedures; and mentor team members with less expertise.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrates a comprehensive skill set in testing authorizations across multiple environments and coordinates testing with business and technical users.
- Validates system configurations to ensure the security of information systems and protects them from unauthorized access or destruction.
- Designs and coordinates engagements with other departments (loss prevention, legal, networking, etc.).
- Identifies security vulnerabilities that could expose Costco to risks and develops prioritized remediation strategies.
- Develops and implements security controls, defenses, and countermeasures to prevent data breaches.
- Establishes strategies and protocols for network behavior, analysis techniques, and tool implementation.
- Proactively identifies and resolves issues, often anticipating problems before they arise; evaluates options; and implements solutions that align with business needs.
- Provides expertise in systems security policies, standards, practices, protocols, and technologies.
- Configures, deploys, maintains, and supports security tools.
- Creates dashboards, configures alerts, implements and supports security software platforms, and monitors tools and applications.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements to enhance effectiveness.
- Implements practices and procedures consistent with Costco's information security policy and IT standards.
- Develops and documents security event and incident handling procedures.
- Ensures comprehensive, accurate, and complete incident documentation.
- Triages, prioritizes, investigates, and coordinates security events and incident handling activities.
- Designs, configures, and maintains various levels of security.
- Assesses existing Cybersecurity Engineering platforms and tools.
- Creates a roadmap for addressing capability gaps, enhancing maturity, and fostering innovation.
- Identifies, develops, and implements mechanisms to detect sensitive data and security incidents to enhance compliance with security standards and procedures.

- Evaluates and strengthens tools and instrumentation to prevent cybersecurity threats.
- Performs necessary duties to establish practices and configurations that ensure the safety of information systems.
- Collaborates with information systems custodians to understand their security needs and assist in implementing appropriate practices.
- Assists in monitoring and auditing information systems to ensure compliance with security policies and provides management with assessments and reports.
- Works with stakeholders to deliver security solutions that meet their business requirements.
- Conducts security risk assessments on new products and systems, as well as periodic assessments on existing systems, recommending appropriate security measures and best practices.
- Coordinates activities with loss prevention, legal, and law enforcement as necessary.
- Expertise in DLP capabilities such as Data Discovery, Data Tagging, Data Classification, Data Segregation, and Data Loss Prevention.
- Expertise in DLP covering data at rest, in use, and in transit.
- Hands-on experience with various DLP capabilities including DLP in motion and at rest, encryption, DSPM, endpoint DLP, file integrity monitoring, and SaaS security.
- Proficient in one or more operating systems: Windows, Linux, AIX, macOS, and iSeries.
- Experience in automation and orchestration for managing server and workstation infrastructure at scale.
- Proficient in at least one scripting/programming language: PowerShell, Shell Scripting, Python, etc.
- Experience integrating disparate systems using APIs.
- Familiarity with DLP technologies and their integration with network platforms, such as Firewalls, UTMs, and proxies.
- Knowledge of network segmentation and security zones for data protection according to classification.
- Understanding of authentication protocols such as Kerberos, SAML, OAUTH, etc.
- Willingness to share knowledge and assist colleagues in understanding technical and business concepts.
- Familiarity with information systems security standards and practices (e.g., access control, system hardening, system auditing, log file monitoring, security policies, and incident handling).
- Understanding of networking protocols, web technologies, and cloud computing.
- Ability to interpret information security data to identify potential compliance issues.
- Capacity to quickly grasp complex data flows to identify and validate security requirements.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a minimum of 8 years of experience in information systems security or related Data Security roles.
- One or more professional certifications such as Security , Network , CCNA, GSEC, CISA, or CISSP (or equivalent experience).
- Experience in computer forensics.
- Familiarity with ITILv2/v3 processes such as Service Support, Service Delivery, or Continual Service Improvement.
- Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance and industry standards, such as HIPAA, SOX, and PCI.
