As a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in our Correctional Health Float Pool, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide total nursing care for assigned patients, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, to ensure quality care.
  • Screen and prioritize patients with regard to medical problems, ensuring timely treatment delivery per physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with inpatient/clinic coordination and flow of patients, including patient treatments as directed by physician and nursing/medical staff, and/or discharge activities.
  • Maintain and implement knowledge of all rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, laws, and Joint Commission standards that impact and govern nursing processes, ensuring compliance.
  • Identify and meet educational needs of patients and families by communicating and distributing appropriate information as needed, reinforcing patient/family education teaching initiated by RN or NP.
  • Participate in community outreach activities, such as health fairs, community collaborations, or outreach clinics, as assigned.
  • Assist with precepting new employees and students as directed by supervisor.
  • Complete written and computer documentation according to established procedures and guidelines.
  • Consult with other team members as required, providing nursing care that demonstrates patient-centered/patient-valued care while anticipating and accommodating patients, families, physicians, and other system staff to ensure coordinated workflow and timely treatment.
  • Ensure availability of appropriate supplies for individual patient care by gathering necessary items together in advance, assisting with ordering and stocking supplies as needed.
  • Clean and sterilize patient areas and medical instruments to maintain an appropriate healthcare environment.
  • Identify ways to improve work processes and internal and external customer satisfaction, assisting with developing annual goals and objectives for the nursing area that support the mission and objectives.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of nursing by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and maintaining LVN licensure, integrating knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Set up patient appointments and referrals for further testing and follow-up care as needed.
  • Assist in transporting patients as needed.
