Electronics Packaging Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary:
Draper Labs is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Cambridge, MA. As a key member of our Electronics Program Office, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions for microelectronics packaging.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that support national security missions. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that collaborates to deliver first-of-a-kind field-ready microelectronics solutions. Your expertise in mechanical design and development will be crucial in creating advanced technical solutions for our customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical design concept exploration, trade study analysis, down-selection, prototyping, and testing with minimal guidance from group leader.
- Help define the design approach for a particular problem and independently execute assignments.
- Contribute high-quality content for technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance.
- Proactively identify needs and concerns associated with design decisions and communicate them to project leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Curiosity-driven approach to solving complex, customer-driven problems as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively and openly with multi-disciplinary program team members, program leadership, and non-technical personnel.
- Team player able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to balance multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Thorough understanding of applied math and physics.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with general modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and/or other design & analysis tools relevant to your discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with materials, fabrication, and assembly techniques associated with printed circuit assemblies including surface mount technology, high-density substrates, rigid-flex designs, and integrated circuit assembly.
- Familiarity designing/directing the physical layout of electrical circuits including SMD, interconnect definition, and integrated circuit assembly techniques.
- Familiarity with machine shop tools and processes, prototyping, and vendor coordination.
- Familiarity with die-level assembly processes and associated automated assembly equipment.
Security Clearance:
A current in-scope Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
