Job Summary:

Draper Labs is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Cambridge, MA. As a key member of our Electronics Program Office, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative solutions for microelectronics packaging.

Your expertise in mechanical design and development will be crucial in creating advanced technical solutions for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design concept exploration, trade study analysis, down-selection, prototyping, and testing with minimal guidance from group leader.
  • Help define the design approach for a particular problem and independently execute assignments.
  • Contribute high-quality content for technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance.
  • Proactively identify needs and concerns associated with design decisions and communicate them to project leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Curiosity-driven approach to solving complex, customer-driven problems as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively and openly with multi-disciplinary program team members, program leadership, and non-technical personnel.
  • Team player able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Thorough understanding of applied math and physics.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with general modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and/or other design & analysis tools relevant to your discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with materials, fabrication, and assembly techniques associated with printed circuit assemblies including surface mount technology, high-density substrates, rigid-flex designs, and integrated circuit assembly.
  • Familiarity designing/directing the physical layout of electrical circuits including SMD, interconnect definition, and integrated circuit assembly techniques.
  • Familiarity with machine shop tools and processes, prototyping, and vendor coordination.
  • Familiarity with die-level assembly processes and associated automated assembly equipment.

Security Clearance:

A current in-scope Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility is required.
