Job Summary:

Draper Labs is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Cambridge, MA. As a key member of our Electronics Program Office, you will be responsible for designing and developing advanced electronics packaging solutions for national security missions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design concept exploration, trade study analysis, down-selection, prototyping, and testing with some guidance.
  • Drive solutions to complex problems with limited direction - contribute to requirements development, propose ways forward, and adapt appropriately to changes in requirements.
  • Plan and execute complex electro-mechanical design from the ideation stage through hardware fabrication and testing, including trade study, concept down select, and detailed design phases.
  • Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies for them.
  • Actively mentor less experienced engineers and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering or full cycle of mechanical design experience.
  • Familiarity with materials, fabrication, and assembly techniques associated with printed circuit assemblies.
  • Familiarity with machine shop tools and processes, prototyping, and vendor coordination.
  • Familiarity with die level assembly processes and associated automated assembly equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mastery of CAD software and other design and analysis tools.
  • Experience with MATLAB and other programming languages.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
