Role Summary
The Medication Assistant (MA) is a vital caregiver responsible for delivering resident-focused nursing care and daily living support to assigned residents under the guidance of a licensed nurse. This role requires knowledge of and the ability to provide age-appropriate care tailored to the physical and emotional needs of residents, as outlined in their care plans.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with essential health care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs.
- Providing psycho-social support and personal care to enhance residents' well-being.
- Administering prescribed medications as directed by a licensed nurse, adhering to state regulations.
- Documenting resident care outcomes, medication administration, and any changes in condition.
- Collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens and monitoring vital signs.
- Supporting dining experiences by assisting with meal preparation and service.
- Maintaining cleanliness in living areas and assisting with laundry services.
- Encouraging resident participation in wellness and recreational programs.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred, but not mandatory. Candidates should be at least 18 years old and have prior experience in clinical or nursing assistant roles within long-term care settings.
Ongoing education is essential, with a minimum of 12 hours required annually, along with maintaining necessary certifications. Specific state requirements for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certifications must be met, depending on the location.
