The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in our ambulatory clinic plays a vital role in the healthcare team, employing the nursing process to ensure comprehensive patient care.
This position is essential for enhancing and restoring patient health through the execution of nursing protocols, collaboration with healthcare providers, and offering both physical and emotional support to patients and their families.
The LPN operates within the framework of the Kansas Nurse Practice Act, adhering to specialty standards and the policies of the organization.Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients and prepare them for examinations or procedures, ensuring a smooth transition into care.
- Document patient health histories and identify any abnormal conditions for physician review.
- Measure vital signs and conduct necessary screenings with precision.
- Administer medications (intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral) as prescribed, following established nursing standards.
- Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions and responses to treatments to the healthcare team.
- Assist in preparing medical supplies and equipment, supporting physicians or advanced practice providers during patient evaluations and procedures.
- Ensure timely and accurate entries in patient charts, facilitating appropriate chart forwarding.- Aid in scheduling diagnostic tests and treatments, coordinating referrals to specialists, and obtaining necessary pre-authorizations as directed.
- Collect and manage lab specimens, retrieve lab results, and update electronic medical records as needed.
- Inform patients about test outcomes and follow-up appointments, referring them to RNs or physicians for educational needs.
- Review medications, treatment plans, and after-visit instructions with patients and their families.
- Screen and respond to telephone inquiries, directing calls to RNs or physicians as appropriate.
- Coordinate pre-visit preparations by reviewing electronic medical records to include patient history and proactively ordering necessary labs and tests based on clinic protocols.
- Complete essential documentation (e.g., FMLA, DME, Home Health orders) and secure physician signatures as required.*The role requires proficiency in the clinical and technical competencies relevant to the assigned department.

Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- BLS Certification
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse in the state (Kansas and/or Missouri) based on work location
- Basic typing and word processing skills
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Current active multistate LPN license in good standing in the state of residence OR an active single state LPN license in good standing in the state of employment with proof of application for a multistate LPN license in the state of residence.
Staff hired prior to the implementation date are required to obtain a multistate LPN license from their state of residence at the time of their next license renewal.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a medical office setting
