Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director of Housing for Residence Life to join our team at the University of South Carolina Upstate. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our residential communities, supervising a team of graduate assistants and student staff, and providing support for large-scale events and conferences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and develop the Residential Life Graduate Assistants/Assistant Hall Directors staff in their housing competency development to manage the buildings and supervise their Senior Student Staff and Resident Advisers/Community Advisers.
  • Monitor the completion of residential life components assigned to the RLGA/AHD, including Room Inventory/Condition, Monthly Key Inventory, Rosters/Head Counts, Health/Safety Inspections, Duty Assignments, and staff programming.
  • Recruit, train, hire, supervise, schedule, and evaluate up to 15 Summer Conference Assistants student staff, providing day-to-day supervision of assigned summer residential area and addressing issues from students, interns, and guests.
  • Manage the recruitment of RA/CA/S3/AHD student staff by working with the Assistant Director of Housing for Communications to provide branding and approval prior to distributing via email, flyers, and media.
  • Provide support during large-scale events, such as Move-UP, orientation, department/division-wide events, Fab Fridays, Open House, Late Night Breakfast, Homecoming, etc., and may present at these events.
  • Adjudicate issues of student conduct through hearings/meetings with students and provide support and education for students who are struggling at the university.
  • Be knowledgeable of StarRez software and utilize reports and other functions, and assist with Cbord CS Gold student ID access, Persona.
  • Lives on site and is available to students and others on campus in the event of an emergency, serving in a rotation for On-Call and serving as a liaison for Upstate campus support offices.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 2 years of experience in residence life or a related field. The candidate must have excellent communication and leadership skills, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
