Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in our Wound Ostomy department, you will provide care and consultation for patients with complex wound, ostomy, and incontinence needs. You will serve as a resource for other healthcare professionals, patients, and families, and design systems to facilitate the appropriate care of this patient population.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assess the physical and educational needs of patients undergoing ostomy surgery or continent diversions, or patients with wounds, fistulas, incontinence, percutaneous tubes, or pressure ulcers.
  2. Communicate patient needs to appropriate members of the healthcare team and provide discharge teaching as requested.
  3. Identify opportunities for system-wide improvement in skin, ostomy, wound, or continence care and develop/revise Nursing Policies and Procedures, Standards of Care, and protocols based on current research.
  4. Develop plans for care management based on patient needs through consultation and collaboration with other members of the patient's healthcare team and coordinate care in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
  5. Implement and evaluate the plan of care for individual patients based on protocols, procedures, and guidelines.
  6. Educate patients, families, and staff on evidence-based skin and wound care practices and promote healthcare in the community through education.
  7. Promote role identification by serving as a clinical preceptor to undergraduate nursing students and staff.
  8. Coordinate meeting agenda and issue follow-up for the Prisma Health Skin Care Committee and evaluate products used, including specialty beds and mattresses.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree - Nursing

Minimum Experience

3 years - RN experience

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

RN - REGISTERED NURSE - NLRN

Certified by WOCNCB as a CWOCN, CWON, CWCN, or COCN (Lawson Code COTR)

Current South Carolina R.N. License (Lawson Code NLRN)

In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements

Masters preparation as a Nurse Practitioner with specialization in Wound/Ostomy Care will be accepted in lieu of the Wound and/or Ostomy Certification.
