Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Sports Specialist at the Justice, Bureau of Prisons/Federal Prison System. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing leisure-time activities in a correctional institution, including individual and team sports such as weight-lifting, track, basketball, softball, flag football, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement the institution's sports program, including intramural sports programs and tournaments.
  • Develop and adapt recreational activities to meet the needs and interests of participants.
  • Schedule and publicize tournaments and other sporting events to attract and motivate participants.
  • Maintain the security of the institution and perform correctional staff responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Applicants must meet the qualification requirements for the position, which include a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in physical education or a related field, or relevant experience in a sports program.
  • Applicants must also pass a background investigation and be willing to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia, and will be subject to a Core Value Assessment (CVA) as part of the hiring process.
