Pediatric Oncology Nurse Job Summary

At Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate Pediatric Oncology Nurse to join our team. As a contract RN, you will play a vital role in providing expert care to pediatric oncology patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality patient care by incorporating the principles of Relationship-Centered Care.
  • Assess and evaluate patient care needs, applying critical thinking skills to manage patient care effectively.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Prioritize patient care tasks, including teaching, rounding, coaching, and delegating tasks as needed.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on their plan of care, transition of care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, family, and healthcare team members, demonstrating empathy and respect.
  • Manage assignments within the Modified Primary Nursing model, allocating resources effectively.
  • Project a professional image, communicating in a caring, respectful, and compassionate manner.
  • Incorporate ethical principles into decision-making, prioritizing patient and family needs.
  • Role model Relationship-Centered Care through key actions like Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, and Purposeful Hourly Rounding.
  • Consider patients' values, preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and their families.
  • Use evidence-based practices to increase understanding of patients' perceptions of care.
  • Initiate service recovery for patients and family members who express concerns, escalating as needed.
  • Practice safe and efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrate clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served.
  • Implement process improvement strategies based on evidence-based practices.
  • Engage in formal and informal peer and institutional review processes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice activities.
  • Contribute to quality and safety practices and required compliance measures.
  • Implement principles of high reliability to provide a safe environment for patients.
  • Utilize institutional information technology to support quality and performance improvement initiatives.


Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatrics hematology/oncology in a hospital setting.
  • Registered Nurse with current registration.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; APHON or CPON certification highly preferred.
  • Pediatric experience and APHON certification are must-haves.
