About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Customer Services Specialist at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring a positive experience for our customers by providing exceptional service and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Provide proactive and courteous service to customers, responding to their needs and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Material Processing: Accurately process and sort materials, including returned items, reserved materials, and new materials, to ensure efficient and effective delivery to customers.
  • Account Management: Assist customers with library card accounts, including processing applications, verifying information, and enforcing account rules and regulations.
  • Financial Management: Manage cash and credit transactions, balancing and reconciling cash drawers, and preparing deposits.
  • Problem-Solving: Resolve customer account disputes by interviewing customers, analyzing account information, and negotiating solutions.
  • Location Operations: Assist with opening and closing procedures, maintaining location supplies, and ensuring the location is clean and organized.
  • Collection Maintenance: Identify and solve problems with library materials, performing cleaning and processing tasks to maintain the collection.
  • Training and Support: Provide training on library technology to customers and staff, and assist with troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Coordinate volunteer activities and orient new staff to Customer Services Specialist tasks.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of Internet and database services, and ability to operate library technology.
  • Reliability: Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, as required.
