Job Summary

As a Journeyman Chiller Technician at Southland Industries, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and industrial air-conditioning equipment and multi-zone heating and cooling systems to ensure they are working efficiently, properly, and affordably.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, remove, maintain, and repair HVAC systems and related equipment.

• Study customer's scope of service and follow the preventative maintenance schedule to perform routine system maintenance, including cleaning and replacing parts, testing for leaks, adjusting controls, and making minor repairs where needed.

• Troubleshoot for electrical problems and make repairs as required.

• Document and track preventive maintenance accordingly and in compliance with EPA regulations.

• Maintain efficient environmental conditions by adjusting system controls to recommended settings and testing system performance using special tools and test equipment.

• Conserve, recover, and recycle CFC and HCFC refrigerants used in A/C and refrigeration systems in compliance with EPA regulations.

• Test systems for gas leaks, carbon monoxide issues, and fluid leaks.

• Install and repair fuel and water supply lines.

• Evaluate customer needs and make recommendations for correction and/or improvement.

• Respond directly to customer questions, explain services provided, and provide Dispatch with detailed summary of related costs for billing purposes.

• Complete all required paperwork in a timely and professional manner.

• Assist Service Sales with customer scope development, technical analysis/support for retrofits, upgrades, and/or enhancements to existing equipment.

• Mentor/train assisting apprentices.

• Perform all work within the confines of Brandt's safety rules and regulations.

• Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.

Requirements:

• Ability to read blueprints, layout plans, and wiring diagrams.

• Proficient at inspecting, troubleshooting, and making repairs on air-cooled chillers (recip, screw, or scroll) less than 100 tons, RTU, package units, water-source heat pumps, and split systems (any size), AHU's, cooling towers, vane axial fans, pumps, air compressors, air dryers, VAV boxes, VFD's.

• Ability to effectively manage time and complete delegated work within specified timeframe.

• Ability to read and interpret EPA regulations.

• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.

• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy.

• Ability and willingness to follow oral and written directions.

• Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug-screen and physical tests.

• Must be available to be on stand-by or work during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
