Abyss Solutions: Field Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Engineer to join our team at Abyss Solutions. As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for deploying new imagery data capturing technologies, assisting in the development of new data acquisition systems, and ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge data products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out on-site field operations, including the setup of equipment, facilitation and monitoring of real-time data collection, and quality assurance of collected data.
  • Operate and maintain inspection equipment, including terrestrial laser scanners, UAS, surface vessels, subsea cameras, and novel technological systems.
  • Perform aerial mapping, modelling, and inspection operations using UAS technology in various environments.
  • Process data both in and out of the field, troubleshoot issues, carry out and coordinate maintenance, and gather data within Abyss standard workflow practice.
  • Provide support for internal UAS pilots and TLS operators in the form of training, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness of operational personnel safety while mitigating risks to the lowest acceptable level.
  • Interface and collaborate directly with operation personnel, project managers, and the UAS team in the planning, development, and implementation of business unit UAS and TLS applications.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a mid-senior role operating within a technical environment and 3-5 years of direct experience in UAS operations, including offshore and industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of laser scanning equipment, software, and data processing techniques, as well as experience operating DJI UAS platforms and familiarity with various payloads and sensors.
  • FAA Certified Part 107 License for UAS operations.
  • Excellent communication, client management, and supervisory skills.
  • Proficiency in data management and software applications related to laser scanning, point cloud processing, and UAS operations.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work in challenging field environments.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain necessary clearances for offshore or industrial site access.
  • Fluent in English and willingness to be in the field >50% of the year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oil & gas project-related experience.
  • Previous experience working with Leica laser scanning & data registration technologies.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Technical systems integration experience.
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Survey, or a closely related technical field.
