Loan Recovery Consultant

Position Summary:
The Debt Recovery Specialist plays a crucial role in safeguarding the assets of Infuze Credit Union by managing overdue accounts, identifying outstanding debts, and engaging with debtors to formulate effective recovery strategies. This position reports directly to the Collections Section Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with members who have overdue accounts and conduct thorough reference checks when necessary. Utilize skip tracing, credit report analysis, and other methods to locate delinquent members.
- Maintain precise records and reports of all collection activities. Regularly update account statuses and databases to ensure that the Collections team has access to current information. Process negative account updates, including charge-offs and recovery payments.
- Monitor all assigned accounts to identify outstanding debts; inform supervisors of members' reluctance or inability to pay and suggest actions for collateral repossession when necessary.
- Issue legal notifications as required to protect the assets of the Credit Union. Develop strategies to recover outstanding balances and negotiate payment arrangements, including options for fresh starts and repayment plans.
- Address member inquiries and resolve complaints; foster trusting relationships with members to mitigate future defaults.
- Conduct daily recovery efforts, including the collection of returned checks and deficiency balances. Collaborate with the Credit Union's collection attorney on new cases. Address credit disputes as needed.
- Stay informed about and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and compliance standards related to debt collection. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all Credit Union products and services to promote beneficial cross-selling opportunities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Compliance:
Must adhere to all company policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act and the Patriot Act.
Qualifications:
Experience:
A minimum of six months to two years of relevant experience, including time spent in preparatory roles.
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is required.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations while upholding professionalism.
- Proficient clerical skills, including computer navigation and typing.
- Attention to detail, ensuring daily tasks are performed with minimal errors.
Physical Requirements:
Individuals must be able to bend, sit, and stand to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of climbing or descending stairs in emergencies. Proficient use of standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, and copiers, is essential. Must be able to work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day as needed. Flexibility to work extended hours or travel off-site as required by management is necessary. Regular, reliable, and timely attendance is expected.
