About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Lead Visual Impairment Specialist to join our team at VIA Visually Impaired Advancement. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing vision services to children from birth to 21 years old.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Vision Services: Deliver high-quality vision services in preschool, school-based, and community settings, adhering to individualized education programs (IEPs) and interim Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Teaching and Support: Teach students essential self-care skills, aiming to promote independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Collaboration and Documentation: Collaborate with TVI Supervisors, teachers, parents, therapists, and aides to develop and implement effective strategies for supporting students' needs. Maintain accurate, confidential records of student progress.
  • Lesson Planning and Development: Create engaging lesson activities, using regular print, large print, Braille, computer programs, or other materials tailored to each student's goals and learning style.
  • Support and Guidance: Provide input on classroom operations, including disciplinary procedures, class routine, safety protocols, and other essential functions. Offer support and guidance to families as needed.
  • Assessment and Recommendations: Utilize standardized and non-standardized tools to assess children's needs, making recommendations for suitable program options.

Requirements:

  • Certification and Experience: Possess New York State Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and a minimum of one year's experience in Early Education.
  • Skills and Qualities: Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal communication, presentation, and writing abilities, as well as proficiency in computer skills, organization, flexibility, patience, and attention to detail.

Compensation:

The estimated salary for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
