This is a commissioned law enforcement position in which the incumbent serves as a uniformed or plain clothes member of the LSU Police Department assigned to various departmental units and/or details.
Key Responsibilities- Provides proactive patrols in order to protect lives/property, also responds to calls for service from the community.
- Detects suspicious activities and watches for criminal acts or incidents that may be a threat to property, or person.
- May have the power to arrest and prevent crimes.
- Conducts investigations of criminal acts, incidents, accidents, and suspicious persons and prepares incident reports for supervisor review and approval.
- Testifies in court to present evidence or act as witness in criminal cases.
- An applicant who meets the Minimum Qualifications and has a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification from a Louisiana accredited training academy may be appointed by probational appointment or job appointment to a job which requires the Protective Services Exam without a test score.
- The applicant's POST certification shall not be under suspension or pending a revocation hearing.
- Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.
- An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
- May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
- May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course.
- May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.
- For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond.
- Physically strenuous activity relative to the nature of law enforcement is required.
- A pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
- This position is deemed essential to campus operations and will be required to report to or remain on campus during times of emergency or closure.
- This position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
- Must possess a valid minimum Class E driver's license.
