Overview

The Field Service Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering strong relationships with clients, ensuring adherence to quality benchmarks and delivery timelines. This role involves executing comprehensive repairs and preventive maintenance on machinery and vehicles, including the removal and installation of parts, while adhering to the standards outlined in the Technician Resource Advancement Certification (TRAC) program, along with other general service department responsibilities as assigned by the Branch Service Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative Duties – Facilitate departmental communication to complete tasks and enhance service labor sales. Utilize various software applications and communication tools as resources. Accurately record service hours and mileage. Ensure precise time card entries. Maintain a tidy, organized, and safe parts area and overall appearance. Engage in all job-related training and professional development. Uphold a clean, orderly, and safe workspace.
  • Inventory Management – Oversee service truck parts inventory while in the field. Manage personal tool inventory.
  • Service Execution – Conduct basic diagnostics to determine necessary repairs and inform clients about required replacement parts. Repair and replace damaged or worn components. Test mechanical products and equipment post-repair or assembly to verify proper functionality and compliance. Complete all necessary reports and documentation associated with work orders, noting the causes of failures or issues. Fill out warranty information. Maintain and service company vehicles and shop. Stay updated on company and competitor products. Ensure the upkeep of vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment. Interpret operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Operate company vehicles to perform service work in the field.
  • Deliver parts, run errands, and perform other tasks as needed.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned by corporate management in alignment with Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company, Inc.'s objectives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of methods, materials, tools, and techniques utilized in the repair of heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to identify complex issues and analyze relevant information to develop and assess options and implement solutions.
  • Proficient in operating vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
  • Strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet applications.
  • Familiarity with office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and printers.
  • Effective communication skills tailored to the needs of clients or colleagues.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Capable of processing work with precision.
  • Reliability in meeting commitments and deadlines.
  • Proficient in completing required documentation and reports promptly.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules as necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Openness to new procedures, technologies, and organizational structures.
Physical Requirements and Work Schedule

Must be capable of lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally. The employee should be able to stand for extended periods. Ability to maneuver arms and hands in confined spaces while using tools for prolonged durations. Must be able to operate vibrating tools for extended periods. Ability to climb equipment and sit for long durations while traveling. Willingness to travel extensively and work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED is required. A one-year certificate from a college or technical school or a minimum of three years of relevant experience and/or training in a subordinate role is preferred.
