Job Overview:

Draper Labs is seeking a highly skilled Principal Condensed Matter Physicist to join our team. As a key member of our research and development team, you will play a critical role in the development of advanced quantum- and condensed matter-based platforms for highly precise sensing, detection, timing, and measurement systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, design, model, test, and characterize novel methods for using room-temperature condensed matter structures to outperform conventional detectors.
  • Develop deep fundamental knowledge and experience with optics, electromagnetics, materials, devices, thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and/or acoustics.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to conceive, design, and implement novel sensing and detection systems.
  • Lead business development, write proposals, white papers, and technical documents.
  • Deliver technical presentations to internal groups and external sponsors.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in condensed matter physics or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantum solid-state systems and sensing (theory, modeling, simulation, experiment, and/or implementation and testing).
  • Strong background in condensed matter theory, along with the ability to capture, understand, and model physical phenomena.
  • Excellent understanding of low-dimensional structures and collective and emergent phenomena.
  • Strong competency in a computing environment such as MATLAB, Python, Mathematica, or similar.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with simulation and computation software.
  • Experience performing laboratory experiments and evaluating prototypes.
