Description
The City of Santa Ana is seeking dedicated individuals who are focused on achieving results, possess a positive demeanor, exhibit creativity and innovation, work efficiently, and have a strong commitment to public service. Our highly skilled workforce is essential in delivering exceptional service to our community.
This role is a seasonal, part-time position. Responsibilities at a City pool will conclude at the end of the summer season. The selected candidates may work varying hours each week, with schedules adjusted based on program and participant requirements.
Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To:
Under general supervision:
- Oversees the utilization of swimming facilities
- Supervises patrons and aquatic programs at multiple pool locations
- Conducts patrols of the swimming area and aquatic facilities
- Implements safety regulations
- Maintains vigilance for potential accidents in the water or on the pool deck
- Issues warnings regarding unsafe practices related to pool usage
- Responds to emergencies by entering the water to assist individuals in distress
- Administers first aid and artificial respiration as necessary
- Assists in organizing various aquatic competitions
- Performs clerical tasks such as answering inquiries, running errands, and gathering supplies for activities
- Collaborates effectively in team-oriented tasks and performs additional related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed at least two years of high school and be at least 16 years old by the date of hire, or possess any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minors will need to provide a work permit prior to employment.
Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR, and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer is REQUIRED. If you do not currently hold these certifications, the City may assist you in obtaining them at no cost during the hiring process.
Desirable Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of: safety protocols and preventative measures for pool environments, as well as basic swimming techniques.
Ability to: engage effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds; communicate clearly in English with the public; address inquiries on a variety of aquatic topics; manage diverse emergency situations specific to aquatic settings.
Special Requirement: Candidates must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as a condition of employment.
Bilingual proficiency in English, Spanish, and Sign Language is highly desirable.
Selection Process:
All applicants are required to complete and submit a City application form online, along with a supplemental questionnaire. Resumes or faxed copies will not be accepted in lieu of a completed City online application.
The Human Resources Department and the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department will review all applications. Candidates with the most relevant qualifications may be invited for an interview and lifeguard training by the hiring agency.
Candidates offered a position will be required to pass a medical examination and background check.
