Overview
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the guidance of the Director or designated representative, the Co-Generation Facility Engineer is responsible for the operation of boilers, turbine generators, turbo-motor compressors, and all associated auxiliary systems within the Co-Generation Facility.
Key Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Manage the generation of steam, electrical power, and refrigeration.
- Conduct repairs on mechanical, electrical, and distribution systems.
- Operate high-pressure steam boilers equipped with super-heaters, economizers, and auxiliary apparatus.
- Control steam turbine generators, condensers, and condensing water pumps, ensuring synchronization with external power sources as necessary.
- Monitor power demand and consumption, making adjustments for optimal power factor, frequency, and voltage.
- Oversee multiple electrical power systems, including Uninterrupted Power Systems (UPS) and emergency power systems.
- Operate centrifugal compressors and related auxiliary equipment, logging performance observations.
- Manage cooling towers and fans serving turbine and refrigeration systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and repairs on all power plant machinery and instrumentation.
- Take accurate readings on all Power Plant Equipment.
- As needed, perform maintenance tasks across various trades within the scope of the position.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a Massachusetts Third Class or higher Stationary Engineer's License.
- 1-2 years of experience in a contemporary power generation facility.
- Knowledge of safety practices surrounding high-pressure and high-voltage systems.
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of refrigeration systems and steam turbine-driven equipment.
- Familiarity with large steam turbo-electric generating equipment and its auxiliaries.
- Understanding of high-pressure boiler operations, including dual fuel systems and combustion controls.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts.
