Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the guidance of the Director or designated representative, the Co-Generation Facility Engineer is responsible for the operation of boilers, turbine generators, turbo-motor compressors, and all associated auxiliary systems within the Co-Generation Facility.



Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Manage the generation of steam, electrical power, and refrigeration.
  • Conduct repairs on mechanical, electrical, and distribution systems.
  • Operate high-pressure steam boilers equipped with super-heaters, economizers, and auxiliary apparatus.
  • Control steam turbine generators, condensers, and condensing water pumps, ensuring synchronization with external power sources as necessary.
  • Monitor power demand and consumption, making adjustments for optimal power factor, frequency, and voltage.
  • Oversee multiple electrical power systems, including Uninterrupted Power Systems (UPS) and emergency power systems.
  • Operate centrifugal compressors and related auxiliary equipment, logging performance observations.
  • Manage cooling towers and fans serving turbine and refrigeration systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and repairs on all power plant machinery and instrumentation.
  • Take accurate readings on all Power Plant Equipment.
  • As needed, perform maintenance tasks across various trades within the scope of the position.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a Massachusetts Third Class or higher Stationary Engineer's License.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a contemporary power generation facility.
  • Knowledge of safety practices surrounding high-pressure and high-voltage systems.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of refrigeration systems and steam turbine-driven equipment.
  • Familiarity with large steam turbo-electric generating equipment and its auxiliaries.
  • Understanding of high-pressure boiler operations, including dual fuel systems and combustion controls.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts.
