Job Title: Development Technician

Corning Incorporated is seeking a highly skilled Development Technician to join our Optical Communications team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing new extrusion processes and products related to optical and copper cables.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with development engineers to design and develop new processes, technologies, and test methods for cable production.
  • Conduct experiments to gain fundamental understanding, mitigate risks, and define capabilities that deliver solutions designed for manufacturing while providing customer value.
  • Participate in project teams to develop new products and processes, ensuring timely execution and delivery.
  • Work with internal and external subject matter experts to identify key processing technologies and determine feasibility and capabilities.
  • Provide project support to evaluate process concepts through configuration and modification of lab or plant-based equipment.
  • Solve problems and improve processes based on fundamental understanding, using structured problem-solving methods such as MEE, KT, Designed Experimentation, and Six Sigma.
  • Capture new ideas for possible patent submission and ensure that experimental execution and data are properly documented and communicated.
  • Develop draft procedures and documentation for processes and equipment, maintaining and improving a safe work environment.
Requirements:
  • Associate degree (Preferred) with 3+ years of manufacturing or product development experience OR 6+ years of similar work experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and ability to share and clearly express technical ideas.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, communicate effectively within a global work environment, and use hand and electrical tools.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, work in a team-based environment with minimal supervision, and make sound decisions by blending analytical thinking with practical judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with general computer experience with Microsoft Office tools.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with extrusion, computer-aided design, and PLC programming.
  • Ability to perform complex data analysis using MS Excel (SPC), or statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.
  • Experience producing controls systems that interface with SCADA and MES systems, specifying and selecting compatible controls hardware, and designing experiments and writing test plans.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, resource management, conflict resolution, and meeting deadlines.
  • Fluency in foreign languages: Spanish, German, and/or Polish.
