Key Responsibilities- Assist students boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Provide support and supervision to students with disabilities during transportation, promoting a positive and inclusive environment.
- Collaborate with bus drivers to ensure efficient and safe route operations.
- Participate in pre-service and in-service training to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with disabilities.
- Develop and maintain a good rapport with bus drivers, students, parents, and school personnel.
- Meet all requirements for school bus assistants as set by the Carroll County Board of Education and the State of Maryland.
- Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Ability to memorize bus routes to assist fill-in drivers.
- Complete pre-service instruction requirements, including Special Needs training.
- Clean drug screen and criminal record, as required by The Arc.
- Ability to lift, manipulate, and exert force (push/pull) in excess of 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to withstand prolonged periods of sitting and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing.
- Ability to transfer individuals from wheelchairs to buses and secure them with tie-downs.
- Ability to participate in evacuation drills, including jumping out of the back of a bus and assisting children to exit.
