Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse Supervisor to join our team at ACI Federal. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will provide technical guidance to registered nurses and independently provide professional nursing care to patients throughout the health district.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance to registered nurses as directed by the health director.
  • Independently provide professional nursing care to patients throughout the health district.
  • Perform nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management.
  • Use the nursing process to assess, develop/implement care plans, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Use the Quad Council's Core Community/Public Health Nursing Competencies as an evidence-based platform for practice.
  • Recognize the diversity of individuals/populations and apply the appropriate language and communication tools.
  • Work collaboratively with other health department agencies and community partners to support the efforts of moving to public health 3.0.
  • Adhere to nursing directives, agency protocols, and guidelines.
  • Practice within the realm of the Nurse Practice Act and related Acts governing health professionals and health laws.
  • Assess the health status and health literacy of clients, including determinants of health, using multiple sources of data.
  • Apply ethical, legal, and policy guidelines and principles in the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and inform.
  • Use information technology effectively to collect, analyze, store, and retrieve data related to public health nursing services for clients.
  • Use evidence-based strategies or promising practices from across disciplines to promote health in communities and populations.
  • Use assessments, develops plans, implements, and evaluates interventions for public health services.
  • May administer routine adult immunizations to clients.
  • Demonstrate ethical standards of practice in all aspects of public health and public health nursing.
  • Set priorities for completing program responsibilities and work assignments.
  • Use data, evidence, and information technology to understand the impact of determinants of health.
  • Use information on determinants of health effectively when working with diverse populations.
  • Assist clients to identify and access necessary community resources or services through the referral and follow-up process.
  • Use research to inform the practice of public health nursing.
  • Demonstrate compliance with the requirements of patient confidentiality and human subject protection.
  • Model public health science skills when working with clients.
  • Teach/counsel clients regarding health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Select variables that measure health and public health conditions.
  • Train new staff.
  • Consult with supervisor for quality improvement measures.
  • Provide informal leadership to nursing staff.
Requirements
  • Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state.
  • Requires BLS certification.
  • Requires adherence to all safety policies, including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff in the areas of public health nursing and population health.
  • Knowledge of grants, case management, ambulatory clinic services, and agencies/programs that support the underserved and underinsured populations.
  • Knowledge of public and community health principles, and of nursing and health care programs.
  • Knowledge of nursing theories related to improving the health of the community.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • BSN and Masters in Public Health or related field.
  • Bilingual and experience with diverse cultures.
