The Community Research Engagement Specialist will facilitate research initiatives under the guidance of a Principal Investigator or their designated representative. This role is integral to the REACH Equity Team, which aims to tackle disparities in HIV and behavioral health affecting specific populations, particularly focusing on Latino men who have sex with men (MSM).
This is a full-time, in-person position located at the School of Nursing and Health Studies. The role will involve engaging with community sites to fulfill the objectives of the position.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Conducts research, gathers, evaluates, and organizes data while maintaining comprehensive databases. Performs quality assurance checks and provides updates on research activities. Coordinates community working group meetings for protocol-related activities. Acts as the primary liaison for community partners and oversees data collection at various venues. Monitors study progress, identifies opportunities for improvement, and suggests solutions. Prepares and revises research procedure manuals. Contributes to the dissemination of significant findings through publications and presentations. Maintains organized research files and manages inquiries via the research study contact line. Complies with University policies and safeguards institutional assets.CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., public health, communications, community health, psychology, sociology, nursing, or related fields).

Experience:
Previous experience in a relevant capacity (e.g., recruitment for studies, outreach for community programs, community engagement for research) is preferred but not mandatory.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet multiple deadlines across various projects. Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required by the supervisor. Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Discretion in handling confidential information. Proficient in engaging with community members and organizations that serve Latino MSM. Familiarity with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, PhotoShop) is preferred but not essential.DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
The Community Research Engagement Specialist will support various projects:
JUNTOS Referral Network: This initiative involves a centralized database of HIV prevention and treatment services tailored for Latino MSM. The role includes recruiting HIV test counselors and facilitating their participation in a pilot study.
Dime Más: This pilot trial compares different outreach strategies to enhance access to PrEP, HIV testing, and behavioral health services for Latino MSM. The position involves recruiting participants through community events and networking.
Community Advisory Board: The REACH Equity Team collaborates with a Community Advisory Board of Latino MSM to provide feedback on research projects and support community service activities. The role includes coordinating CAB meetings and engaging with members.
Additional projects may arise requiring support from the Community Research Engagement Specialist, focusing on recruitment, outreach, and community engagement to ensure research success.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and attend events and organizations to recruit participants for studies. Coordinate recruitment activities for team members. Maintain a proactive recruitment schedule based on study requirements. Utilize social and sexual networking platforms for recruitment and outreach. Track recruitment efforts and outcomes to identify effective practices. Conduct recruitment activities during non-traditional hours as needed. Collaborate with individuals supporting recruitment for specific projects. Assist in developing and maintaining a lab website for project visibility. Create public-facing materials to support recruitment and community engagement. Plan and coordinate all aspects of the Community Advisory Board, including member recruitment and meeting agendas. Screen and enroll participants for research studies following established protocols. Attend lab and project-specific meetings to report on recruitment and outreach activities.
