Job Summary and Responsibilities

Overview
The Behavioral Support Technician plays a crucial role in executing skill-acquisition and behavioral intervention strategies as outlined by the Education Team and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This position focuses on fostering communication, social, and daily living skills while minimizing challenging behaviors in educational and home settings. Collaboration with classroom teams, mental health professionals, and early childhood specialists is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with educational staff to implement tailored intervention strategies for children. Provide exemplary modeling of therapeutic interactions, initially offering high levels of support and gradually reducing assistance as staff develop their skills. Ensure ongoing support for action and safety plans as required.
  2. Engage in one-on-one sessions with children to enhance communication abilities and teach effective replacement skills.
  3. Monitor classroom dynamics to identify potential behavioral triggers and reinforcers. Regularly collect and analyze data to evaluate the fidelity and success of interventions, maintaining open communication with site staff regarding classroom influences.
  4. Apply evidence-based positive interventions, emphasizing skill development among staff to effectively support children in the learning environment.
  5. Participate in regular meetings with the BCBA to assess data and strategize progress.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Perform any other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Associate's degree in education, child development, social sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Two years of experience working with children with disabilities or behavioral challenges.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board or the ability to obtain it shortly after hiring.
  • Valid driver's license, insurance, and access to reliable transportation during work hours.
Additional Requirements
  • Enrollment in the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to starting employment, with ongoing maintenance required.
  • Completion of a post-offer fitness for duty evaluation within 30 days of hire, including TB screening and health appraisal.
  • Completion of required Oregon Department of Education Early Learning Division Self-Study Trainings within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Infant/Child First Aid/CPR certification within 60 days of hire.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions

This role requires frequent travel between various work sites to provide essential classroom support. The position may involve unpredictable behaviors from children and families. Some tasks will be conducted in a standard office environment while utilizing a computer.
