Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Services Technician to join our team at Wooster Community Hospital. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and safety of our hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform multiple cleaning tasks in accordance with hospital procedures and policies.
  • Collect and dispose of non-medical and medical waste, and operate the waste autoclave.
  • Collect corrugated boxes and maintain floor care duties, including cleaning and maintaining floors and carpeting.
  • Responsible for linen distribution, including stocking carts, delivering clean linen, and collecting soiled linen.
  • Respond to house pages and assist with other duties as needed.
Requirements
  • Able to occasionally lift up to and sometimes exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Hours may flex due to needs of the department.
  • Job requires continuous walking, grasping, frequent reaching and occasional bending, kneeling and squatting.
  • No written disciplinary action in the last 12 months.
  • Role eligible for applicants age 17 and older.
Preferred Attributes
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Institutional cleaning experience.
  • Floor care maintenance experience.
  • Good customer service skills.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintains a safe working environment and reports unsafe working conditions and/or maintenance concerns to the Environmental Services Supervisor.
  • Completes area assignments in a timely manner.
  • Cleans units, discharge and occupied, according to procedure.
  • Makes unoccupied beds according to procedure.
  • Spot washes walls, spot cleans carpet, high dusts areas according to policy/procedure.
  • Stocks toilet tissue, towels, and hand soap where needed in areas of assignment.
  • Performs wet mopping techniques, according to established procedures.
  • Uses wet floor signs appropriately and removes them in a timely manner.
  • Correctly operates and maintains vacuum cleaners.
  • Handles trash according to departmental/hospital procedures and places it in proper containers.
  • Keeps cleaning carts clean, stocked, and ready to use.
  • Keeps tools/equipment ready for use and returns them to their proper location after use.
  • Performs floor care duties as assigned.
  • Performs trash disposal duties as assigned.
  • Reports work activity on Weekly Reports.
Relief Charge Duties
  • Directs department personnel in the absence of the Environmental Services Supervisor and the Environmental Services Charge Technician.
  • Distributes staff work assignments.
  • Obtains coverage for call-offs or distributes work load among existing staff per policy.
Linen Room Responsibilities
  • Trains and orients new employees to responsibilities and established procedures set for the following:
  • Linen Carts and Deliveries, Delivery and stocking of linen carts.
  • Stocking of Linen Shelves, Putting away linen received from linen supplier.
  • Soiled Linen Pickups, Collection and handling of soiled linen from inside the hospital and placing it into carts for linen service pickup.
