The Oncology Intake Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless review of referrals to the Wooster Cancer Care/Wooster Community Hospital Oncology department and optimal reimbursement for WCHHS. This position requires a collaborative approach, utilizing clinical experience and organizational guidelines to provide excellent customer service to our Cancer Center patients, families, referral sources, and internal customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive and review all new referrals for services provided by Wooster Cancer Care, completing the new referral form in its entirety.
  • Monitor all modes of referral receipt, ensuring complete demographic information and verifying insurance benefits.
  • Communicate with referral sources to obtain missing or additional information, creating a "shell" in Meditech for eligibility verification and updating the system as needed.
  • Compile complete and accurate referral packets for submission to providers for review of clinical appropriateness.
  • Provide prior authorization services for radiation oncology services, working with radiation oncology services physicians and staff to ensure timely access to services.
  • Maintain skills for all associated Meditech applications and other necessary applications to complete functions of the position.
Requirements:
  • LPN possessing an active Ohio license
  • Ability to self-direct and manage time effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve complex situations
Preferred Attributes:
  • Demonstrated experience in revenue cycle principles
  • Prior experience in a cancer treatment center
  • Strong familiarity with ICD diagnosis codes and CPT codes
  • Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement/payment policies and payor-specific criteria
